The earliest located copy is a 777 by 480 pixel raster uploaded to Wikimedia Commons on 13 January 2012 by Fobos92 under the title "Bandera gay Turquía", Spanish for Turkey gay flag, declared own work. The upload carried no statement about the design. HectorTroi uploaded the vector now in circulation, redrawing the 2012 composition to the flag of Turkey's statutory construction: the crescent and star at the statute's exact diameters and offsets, the star turned to point at the hoist as on the national flag, and the proportions set to the national 2:3. On 13 August 2026 the Commons file was nominated for deletion by Uran1um1: "This file should be deleted as it may be illegal under the Turkish Flag Law No. 2893 in the Republic of Turkey, which states that modifying the Turkish National Flag, including its dimensions, colors, or symbolism, is strictly illegal." Tvpuppy voted to keep it the same day, calling the objection "a non-copyright restriction" and noting the image is in use on several wikis. The request was open as of 13 August 2026. The uploader's Turkish description had its own gap in the record: present from upload day, it was removed in a September 2022 round of metadata edits and restored on the day of the deletion nomination. In the 2021 vector the crescent and star reproduce the flag of Turkey's statutory construction exactly: the outer crescent circle half the hoist width in diameter, the inner circle two fifths of the hoist width with centres a sixteenth of the hoist width apart, the star circumscribed by a circle a quarter of the hoist width, all on the midline, the star pointing at the hoist. The crescent reaches from the orange stripe to the blue; the star sits across the yellow and green. Values read from the SVG source. In the 2012 original the crescent is about a tenth larger than the statute prescribes and sits slightly above the midline, and the star is tilted. [2][4][1]
Six equal horizontal stripes carry the rainbow flag's standard order, red at the top through violet at the bottom. The white crescent opens toward the fly with the five-pointed star at its mouth, the arrangement of the flag of Turkey, set left of center.
