Rainbow Pride Flags

First flown in San Francisco in 1978, the Rainbow Flag became one of the most recognizable symbols of modern LGBTQ+ Pride. Gilbert Baker is usually credited with the original eight-stripe design, but the first enormous flags were made collaboratively with Lynn Segerblom, James McNamara, and a larger group of volunteers. This category follows the rainbow flag from those first hand-dyed versions through the changes in production and display that produced later flag-forms, and the many adaptations that kept the rainbow at their center.

  • Belarusian Pride Flag (White-Red-White) The white-red-white flag of Belarus with its central red band recoloured: a quarter of its length stays red, and the rest runs orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black and brown in equal segments, the conventional pride palette with the Philadelphia black and brown.
  • Canadian Pride Flag The flag of Canada with its red pales replaced by panels of six rainbow bands, keeping the white centre and the red maple leaf.
  • Cannabis Rainbow Flag (United States format) A rainbow flag in the format of the United States flag, with a cannabis leaf where the stars would be and rows of small leaves where the white stripes would be.
  • Chicago Pride Flag (Rainbow Stripes, Purple Stars) A five-stripe Chicago rainbow composition: red, orange, yellow, green and blue field stripes, the enlarged yellow centre stripe filling the municipal flag's middle third and carrying four purple six-pointed Chicago stars.
  • Chicago Stars Pride Flag A Chicago Pride flag design sold by PrideFlags.com since at least June 2016 and introduced by Mayor Brandon Johnson as the Chicago Stars Pride Flag on 26 June 2024, "raising our brand new Chicago Stars Pride Flag alongside the Cook County Progress Pride Flag".

  • Gay USA Pride Flag (Campbell) Sean Patrick Campbell's variation on the Gay USA flag, keeping the six rainbow stripes and the fifty-star canton and recoloring the canton pink where the earlier design's is blue.

  • Queer People of Color Flag The six-stripe rainbow flag charged with a raised fist on a black disc, the fist banded from pale to dark.
  • Rainbow Flag with White Triangle (Sapporo) A six-stripe rainbow flag with a white triangle at the hoist, photographed by Sailko at Osaka's first Pride parade, the Kansai Rainbow Parade of 22 October 2006, and documented in Sapporo from 14 September 2008 through 2019.
  • Rainbow Gadsden Flag The Gadsden rattlesnake and 'DON'T TREAD ON ME' on a six-stripe rainbow field, with no identified designer: Flags of the World logged it in October 2013 as 'recently introduced', noting that most images of it were still from online shops.
  • Rainbow Israel Flag The Israeli national flag with each of its two blue bands replaced by three narrow rainbow bands, keeping the white field and the blue Magen David.
  • Rainbow Polish Flag (2014, Angela Getler) The Polish national flag with the rainbow in place of its red, designed by the Warsaw graphic artist and animator Angela Getler, who first carried it at the Equality Parade in Warsaw in 2014 and published it on Wikimedia Commons that June under CC BY 4.0.
  • Sego Belonging Flag Salt Lake City's official LGBTQIA flag combines the Progress Pride Flag with the sego lily emblem of the city's 2020 flag.
  • Social Justice Pride Flag The Social Justice Pride Flag was designed by Chennai activist Moulee and released by Queer Chennai Chronicles at the inaugural Chennai Queer LitFest on 7 July 2018.
  • South African Gay Pride Flag Eugene Brockman's hybrid of the six-stripe rainbow flag and the South African national flag, launched at the Mother City Queer Project in Cape Town on 18 December 2010 with the claim that Queer South Africans "put the dazzle into our rainbow nation." The Bureau of Heraldry registered it on 20 July 2012 as the flag of an association.
