Overview

To provide a distinct pride symbol for transgender people who identify with a neutral gender rather than with masculinity or femininity, distinguishing their experience from both transfeminine and transmasculine trajectories.

The most widely circulated transneutral flag was created by Tumblr user arco-pluris on April 27, 2018. It was designed as part of a set alongside the transfeminine and transmasculine flags, adapting the color logic of the transgender pride flag to represent a neutral gender trajectory. Several earlier alternate transneutral flag designs, in yellow, purple, and green variations, were created by an unknown designer on or before October 5, 2016. Additional alternate designs were later contributed by FANDOM user ElderflowerJuice (July 29, 2021), Discord user carrot !#2232/Dandy (December 11, 2021), and Tumblr user ryanyflags (October 3, 2022).

Transneutral is not synonymous with nonbinary. Not all nonbinary genders are neutral-aligned, and not all nonbinary individuals identify as transgender. The term can also describe individuals who undergo a medical transition process that is not fully transmasculine or transfeminine.
