Lesbian Lesboy Ally Flag

Ally Pride Flag ·

One of four ally flags published together by the Tumblr user prideisforeveryonebutcops: five Lesbian Flag stripes under an open A-shaped charge in Lesboy Flag colours, for lesbians supporting lesboys. No date of creation is documented; the set was in circulation by 20 September 2023. [1] The LGBTQIA+ Wiki records the four as a response to harassment of people using the terms. [2]

Overview

Made in response to harassment. The wiki records the set of four as having been made "in response to harassment of those that used these terms", the terms being mspec lesbian, lesboy, mspec gay and turigirl. [2] The designer's post publishes all four together and adds no account of the harassment beyond their titles and tags. [4]

Identity & Context

Lesboy, per the LGBTQIA+ Wiki, "is an identity for an individual who in some way identifies as a boy/man that is gay/queer for women". The page lists boy lesbian, boysbian, male lesbian, lesguy, lesman, lesbiman, lesbian man and lesdude among its other names, and gives the woman counterpart as turigirl, the non-binary equivalent as lesenby. It places the identity's history in butch and transmasculine writing, citing Sally Munt's Butch/Femme of 1997, Leslie Feinberg's Transgender Warriors, J Halberstam's Transgender Butch of 1998 and Henry Rubin's Self-Made Men of 2003, and notes the term itself is attested before 2011, more commonly in Indonesian and Tagalog. [5]

The flag is for lesbians supporting lesboys. That reading is the designer's: the title names the allying community first and the supported community second, and the artwork puts the lesbian flag in the field with the lesboy flag in the letter A. [4]

Attributed designer and publisher

The Tumblr account that published the four coordinated ally flags together, and the account the LGBTQIA+ Wiki attributes them to. The name is a pseudonym; the blog is deactivated, and no personal identity, location or other work is documented. [2][1]

Attribution notes

Published by the Tumblr user prideisforeveryonebutcops, who is the account the four designs are attributed to. [2][1] No personal identity and no location are documented, and the blog is now deactivated. The surviving reblog reproduces the images and the two paired titles and carries no explanatory text. Creation Bounds
In circulation by 20 September 2023, the date of a surviving reblog that reproduces all four images and both paired titles and carries an embedded publication timestamp of 2023-09-20T03:10:43Z. [1] That is a bound, not a date of creation: the original Tumblr post is on a deactivated blog and its own timestamp has not been recovered. The June 2024 wiki upload is a later archival capture, not first documentation. [3]

The four flags divide by field, and the designer's titles say so: two are "Lesbian" flags and two are "Gay" ones. The lesboy and mspec lesbian ally flags carry the orange-and-pink lesbian flag; the turigirl and mspec gay ally flags carry the gay men's flag. The pairing follows the terms: lesboy and mspec lesbian sit in lesbian space, turigirl and mspec gay concern attraction to men. [4]

Field: the Lesbian Flag, which supplies the five horizontal stripes. Charge: the Lesboy Flag, whose stripes fill the A-shaped mark. The ally construction, an open A-shaped charge over the allying community's own field, follows the Straight Ally Pride Flag; that is an inferred formal relationship, since the creator's surviving post states no derivation. [1]

Siblings are the other three flags published in the same pair of posts: Lesbian Mspec Lesbian Ally Flag, Gay Mspec Gay Ally Flag, Gay Turigirl Ally Flag. Other ally and solidarity flags in the archive are category peers rather than relatives of this set.

The Lesboy Flag is recorded as the charge component. [5]

Colors & Symbolism

No statement of meaning has been located, for this flag or for the three made alongside it. The wiki explains the ally-flag format but publishes no reading of these colours, and the designer's recovered post carries none. [2][4]

No values are published. The artwork held is a 240 by 144 pixel JPEG, too small and too compressed for its values to describe the design, so no palette is recorded here. The bands were sampled only to identify which flags the design combines. [2]

Five horizontal field stripes carrying a broad, open, A-shaped striped charge. The outer apex sits at the top centre and the outer edges run diagonally to the lower corners. A triangular cutout begins at about the vertical midpoint, so the field shows through the middle of the mark and the charge reaches the bottom edge as two separate legs. There is no separately drawn horizontal crossbar: measured across all four designs the legs diverge from the cutout apex to the bottom edge and never rejoin. A field stripe visible through the opening belongs to the field, not to the charge. [1]

Discourse & Debates

The flag's occasion is a dispute inside Queer communities rather than a general statement of support: the wiki gives it as harassment directed at people using the terms mspec lesbian, lesboy, mspec gay and turigirl. No source describes that harassment further. [2]

The same wiki records a related objection to the ally-flag format itself. A different designer, thee-radio-host-is-a-kookaburra, made a set of six ally flags in August 2023 "after hy thought it was odd that most ally flags had the straight flag in the background". This set is built the same way, on the flag of the allying community rather than the straight flag, though no source connects the two. [2]

Single-source entry in substance. The designer's own post and the LGBTQIA+ Wiki sentence are not independent of each other: the post is the wiki's own cited reference for the set. Two citations, one source and its restatement. The post carries titles and tags but no date and no statement of meaning, and the blog behind it is deactivated.

Rights Unresolved

No licence has been located for the designs. The LGBTQIA+ Wiki publishes its content under CC BY-SA 4.0, which covers the wiki’s own content and does not establish a reuse licence for the underlying artwork. [2][3]
