Overview

To give the autochorissexual experience a community visual symbol and to mark it visually as a part of the asexual spectrum rather than as a clinical paraphilia. The inverted triangle was chosen to represent the inversion of attraction and action that defines the experience. ^[2]

The flag was created in mid-2014 inside the same Tumblr a-spec community that produced cupiosexual, lithromantic, frayromantic, apothisexual, and several other micro-label flags during 2014 to 2016. The clinical term autochorissexualism predated the flag by two years, having been introduced in 2012 in a peer-reviewed sexology paper by Dr. Anthony F. Bogaert. ^[3] The flag therefore arrived as a community visual answer to a pre-existing clinical term, rather than as an icon for a community-coined word. The community term aegosexual followed the flag in November 2014, coined by Tumblr user Sugar-And-Spite specifically to escape the paraphilia framing of the original clinical term. ^[4]

The mogai-library entry on aegosexuality lists 'Pride flag credit: hunterinabrowncoat' and 'Explanation credit: hunterinabrowncoat,' and assigns explicit color meanings to the flag. ^[1] A separate pride-color-schemes documentation post (June 25, 2016) repeats the hunterinabrowncoat credit and describes the four-stripe triangle layout in detail. ^[5] The originating 2014 hunterinabrowncoat post itself has not been independently recovered, and the July 23, 2014 date is supported by the LGBTQIA+ Wiki and Pride Flag Wiki rather than by a verified primary capture. ^[4] The clinical term autochorissexualism was coined by Dr. Anthony F. The 2014 hunterinabrowncoat design is the version reproduced in most a-spec pride flag guides. ^[4][2] An alternate aegosexual flag was created by an unnamed community member on or before August 4, 2020, using purple, gray, teal, and black; it has not displaced the 2014 design. ^[4]

The shift from autochorissexualism (clinical, 2012) to aegosexual (community, November 2014) is one of the clearer cases in the database of a community renaming a term to escape the framing of its clinical origin. The flag, created July 23, 2014, sits chronologically between the two and was originally circulated under the older clinical label.

The flag uses the asexual pride flag's exact four colors (black, gray, white, purple) but rearranges them through an inverted triangle layout. The triangle and its color inversion represent the 'inverted aspect' of autochorissexuality. Outside the triangle the colors run black, gray, white, purple from top to bottom. Inside the triangle the colors are inverted: purple, white, gray, black. ^[2][1]

Color meanings are taken from the mogai-library entry on aegosexuality, which explicitly assigns black to asexuality, gray to grey-and-demisexuality, white to sexuality, and purple to community. ^[1] These differ from the asexual pride flag's standard readings (where purple represents community in some readings but other roles in others).
