One of the pride flags Sean Patrick Campbell drew for the Gay and Lesbian Times, taking the Leather Pride Flag's stripe positions, avoiding Queer symbolism apart from a white triangle, and adding a horse's head. A stub. The two sources that document it disagree on its date: the Queerstory Files places it in the June 2000 magazine series, the Twilight Guard gallery dates it to 2001. An earlier and more widely used cowboy pride flag, based on the rainbow flag, existed before Campbell's. [1][2]

Not established. Campbell designed a series of pride flags for sub-communities while working at the Gay and Lesbian Times, which had no photo archive of its own; in his words he came up with designing flags "rather than hunt around getting copyright clearance for photos and images." [2]

Unresearched beyond the series. Campbell drew the magazine batch in Palm Springs, California, at the beginning of 2000 for the Gay and Lesbian Times (Greater Palm Springs Edition). Whether this flag belongs to that batch is exactly what the two sources disagree about. [2][1]

Dates & Chronology

The date is unresolved and both dates trace to Campbell's own circle. The Queerstory Files post of 21 June 2012 covers this flag as one of the June 2000 series. [2] The Twilight Guard gallery, on the site of the club Campbell co-founded and served as an officer of, dates it to 2001. [1] Neither has been weighed against the other, and `year_created` stays null until one is.

Sibling of the Feather Pride Flag and the Labrys Lesbian Flag, both Campbell's and both documented here. Scupham-Bilton records that "there had been a more widely used Cowboy Pride flag based on the Rainbow flag prior to Sean's," so this design is not the first flag for the community it addresses and should not be described as one. [2] That earlier flag has not been identified or entered.

Campbell placed six of his flag designs, marked with an asterisk in the Twilight Guard gallery, in the public domain, having first registered copyright to stop anyone else enclosing them. The footnote reads: the items "have been copied righted under the artist name. These items are also declared public domain by the artist... The artists ask only if you do use the images, that credit be given to the creator, and that he is also informed about any commercial use." The spelling is as published. [1] Whether this flag is one of the six asterisked designs has not been checked against the gallery.
