Cultural Gender Pride Flags

Flags for gender categories that are native to a particular culture and language, with their own social and legal histories: waria in Indonesia, hijra across South Asia, khawaja sira in Pakistan. These are not translations of English gender labels, and the entries here are careful about that. A term may be rendered in English as transgender woman, and people who hold it sometimes use that language themselves, while its relationship to Western categories stays historically specific rather than one-to-one. Flags in this category are usually individual proposals made online; organised community life for these genders almost always predates them by decades.

Hijra Pride Flag Five bands, pink, white, red, white and blue, designed in July 2018 by Samira, a Tumblr user who identified as hijra at the time and wrote that the red stands for "the divinity we were blessed with by Rama".

Waria Pride Flag Six equal stripes of red, black, pink, gold, brown and white, drawn as pixel art and published to Pixilart on 12 June 2021 by WiiFyneLM, who wrote a meaning for every stripe in the artwork's own description: "in my culture, there are many, many genders, one of which I have found, doesn't really have a pride flag so I decided to make one." No use of the design by a waria organisation or community event has been located; its documented circulation is online.
