Lesbian Pride Flags

Lesbian flag history is unusually messy. This category begins with the first well-documented lesbian-specific Pride flag, Sean Campbell’s 1999 labrys design, published in 2000, then follows Natalie McCray’s 2010 lipstick flag, the unattributed pink derivative, Emily Gwen’s 2018 orange-and-pink design, and later variants. There are recurring themes, but a centralized, agreed-upon variant still hasn’t solidified.

  • Lipstick Lesbian Flag Natalie McCray introduced the Lipstick Lesbian Flag on This Lesbian Life on 28 July 2010 for lipstick lesbians, seven pink-to-red stripes with a kiss mark at the upper hoist.
  • Pink Lesbian Flag The Lipstick Lesbian Flag with the kiss mark absent, by someone who has never been identified.
  • Butch Lesbian Pride Flag (2016, dorian--rutherford) A seven-stripe cool-toned butch lesbian pride flag attributed to Tumblr user dorian--rutherford in 2016.
  • Butch Lesbian Flag (Butchspace, 2017) Seven horizontal bands running from a deep red-orange through orange and cream to a dark mustard gold, published on the butchspace Tumblr blog on 27 June 2017 under the title "A new butch flag" by the moderator known there as Mod Q and as Jim.
  • Orange-Pink Lesbian Precursor (2017) Four designs posted together on 3 July 2017 by the Tumblr user shapeshifter-of-constellation, who described them as a splice of "the lipstick lesbian & orange butch flag" with the More Color More Pride stripes added.
  • Sunset Lesbian Flag The seven-band orange-to-pink lesbian flag, proposed by Emily Gwen on Tumblr on 3 June 2018 and given its settled meanings three days later.
  • Five-Stripe Sunset Lesbian Flag The five-band lesbian flag in widest general use: dark orange, light orange, white, pink and dark rose, posted by the Tumblr user taqwomen on 25 July 2018 as a simplification of Emily Gwen's seven-band design, dropping the second and sixth bands.
  • Non-Girl Lesbian Flag Five stripes in dark red, sage green, lavender, pale yellow and pink, posted to r/lgbt by Ari, a genderfluid lesbian, on 27 November 2025 as the Non-Girl Lesbian Flag, "for nonbinary, gender-expansive, and otherwise not-girl lesbians." The creator-posted image survives with its slightly unequal narrow stripes, a program artifact Ari acknowledged, and a second Reddit user made a creator-approved line-fixed redraw the same day.
  • Chicago Lesbian Pride The five-stripe sunset lesbian flag crossed with the flag of Chicago, one of PrideFlags.com’s Chicago series: the white field stands in for the lesbian flag’s centre stripe, each bar splits into two of its colours, and the four stars take the four colours in order.
