Do I Exist? Volume 2

This film is a second attempt at proving to myself that I exist. Via live-action and animation, I enlist those closest to me to act out abstracted scenes from my life. I aim to capture a glimpse of myself on camera in a way usually impossible to us, just as we can never see our own faces in person.

Growing up in the 2000s, digital recordings have been my primary method of self-recognition. From classic examples of documentation such as home movies, but also down to the choices we make in how we present ourselves on social media. By placing my subjects in the same circumstances I’m accustomed to understanding myself in- an Instagram story, a Zoom class, a Tiktok, a vlog- I try (in vain) to see myself as another might.
